RPO Recruitment’s client is urgently seeking the expertise of an Instrumentation Technician in Gauteng. The successful candidate will be a highly skilled and motivated Engineer/instrumentation technician to join a team as a specialized operator for our robotic drill rigs. This position offers the unique opportunity to not only operate cutting-edge machinery but also play a pivotal role in the ongoing research and development efforts to enhance drilling performance and efficiency.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage the robotic drill rigs with precision and safety, ensuring all operations align with project objectives and compliance standards.
  • Participate in comprehensive training programs covering the control systems of the machine, drilling methodology, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with the research and development team to identify opportunities for improvements and innovations in drilling technology.
  • Contribute technical expertise to the design and implementation of upgrades
  • and modifications to the robotic drill rigs.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance of the machinery.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation on drilling operations, findings, and equipment status for internal review and continuous improvement.
  • Travel to various project sites, including remote locations, as required to meet operational needs and project objectives. Engage with clients and stakeholders to provide technical support and ensure satisfaction with drilling operations and outcomes.

 

Requirements:

  • Instrumentation qualifications with specific focus on automation and robotics
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronic) will be advantageous
  • Strong technical acumen and ability to grasp complex engineering concepts.
  • Experience in operating or maintaining heavy machinery, robotics, or similar technologies is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Willingness to undergo specialized training on the operation and maintenance of robotic drill rigs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce comprehensive technical reports.
  • Availability to travel to remote sites as required by project demands.
