A dynamic and fast-growing technology solutions company is looking for an experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator with strong enterprise database management expertise to join their Johannesburg-based team. The successful candidate will work within enterprise-grade environments, supporting mission-critical systems while contributing to database migration, optimisation, and modernisation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Manage, monitor, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments (community and enterprise editions).

• Design and implement database architecture, including replication, high availability, and backup strategies.

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimisation across large-scale environments.

• Lead Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration projects and provide cross-platform compatibility guidance.

• Collaborate with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless database integration.

• Implement database security best practices, policies, and access control measures.

• Provide L1–L3 support to internal stakeholders and external clients.

• Document processes, develop knowledge bases, and mentor junior DBAs.

• Participate in after-hours support rotations when required.

• Support technical pre-sales engagements and contribute to solution architecture discussions.

Requirements:

• 5–8 years’ hands-on DBA experience, with at least 3+ years focused on PostgreSQL.

• Strong experience working with Enterprise PostgreSQL platforms.

• Oracle Database experience advantageous.

• Proven expertise in performance tuning, replication (streaming and logical), and backup & recovery strategies.

• Strong Linux command-line proficiency and scripting skills.
