Job Description

A dynamic and service-oriented business management consultancy is looking for an experienced Credit Risk Advisor with strong analytical, leadership, and stakeholder management skills to join their team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and mitigating client credit risks, advising on strategic financial exposure, and managing all aspects of debt recovery and insurance engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed credit risk assessments and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

  • Manage a small team including Debt Recovery Specialists and Assistants, supporting their training, coaching, and development.

  • Visit clients, debtors, attorneys, and insurers to manage financial risk and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Conduct assessments of annual financial statements and advise clients on financial stability and risk.

  • Provide input on insurance coverage, policy reviews, and claim support processes.

  • Monitor and manage client accounts, vet new business accounts, and recommend legal or strategic actions for recovery.

  • Facilitate and attend business rescue and liquidation meetings; liaise with attorneys and practitioners.

  • Prepare regular reporting for internal and external stakeholders, tracking progress and emerging risks.

  • Promote and cross-sell the company’s full range of financial and risk-related services.

Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Finance, Economics, Law, or Business Management.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a credit, financial, or risk advisory environment, preferably with exposure to debtors, creditors, and credit insurance.

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk, financial analysis, and legal processes related to debt recovery.

  • Analytical thinker with excellent attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Able to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

  • Experience leading small teams and coaching junior staff is advantageous.

  • Proficient in using M-Files or similar workflow/document management systems.

  • Must be confident in interpreting financial statements, assessing risk on-site, and advising clients accordingly.
