The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and analyzing structures, including buildings, bridges, and infrastructure projects. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze structures in accordance with industry codes and standards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
- Create detailed structural drawings and specifications using relevant software programs such as AutoCAD and Revit.
- Conduct site investigations to assess the feasibility of a project and gather necessary information for design purposes.
- Collaborate with architects, construction teams, and other professionals to develop optimized structural designs that meet project requirements.
- Perform calculations and simulations to determine structural load capacities, stresses, and deflections.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate design concepts and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Review and provide technical feedback on project plans, drawings, and specifications to ensure accuracy and adherence to design principles.
- Identify and resolve any design issues or construction challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in structural design, materials, and technologies, and apply them to improve design processes.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and drafters in the team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design engineering, preferably in the construction or consulting industry.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles, codes, and regulations, such as SANS, Eurocodes, and AISC.
- Proficient in using structural analysis and design software tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar programs.
- Solid understanding of various construction materials, including concrete, steel, and timber, and their application in structural design.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex engineering data and make informed design decisions.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to working within a multidisciplinary team environment.
