RPO Recruitment’s Client is urgently seeking the expertise of an General Manager – Open Cast Mine Operations in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the long-term strategic direction of the company, ensuring operational excellence, sustainable growth, and maximized stakeholder value. This is a key executive role that demands a forward-thinking leader with exceptional leadership, financial acumen, and a proven track record of managing diverse teams and projects across multiple functions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee all departments within the organization, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies and operational goals.
- Develop and implement the company’s strategic objectives in line with corporate goals, ensuring all departments align with the overall vision.
- Ensure that production targets, as set out by the Board of Directors, are met consistently, with a focus on optimizing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing overall productivity.
- Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring high performance, safety, and compliance with company standards across all departments.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve operational profitability without compromising safety or quality.
- Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to improve productivity, reduce environmental impact, and ensure sustainability in mining operations.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, including employees, suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies, to enhance the company’s market presence and reputation.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial performance to ensure resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
- Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activity to inform strategic decisions and identify new opportunities for growth.
- Drive risk management and mitigation strategies across all aspects of the operation, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and legal regulations.
- Ensure alignment of all departments with corporate sustainability goals, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing operational output.
- Ensure effective communication across all levels of the organization, fostering collaboration and transparency within teams.
- Act as a key liaison between the executive leadership team and operational staff, conveying strategic direction and operational challenges.
- Manage and oversee major capital projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and effective resource allocation.
- Champion the company’s culture and values, ensuring that ethical standards and best practices are upheld across all operations.
- Lead Community Stakeholder Forums, ensuring positive relationships with surrounding communities and addressing any social or environmental concerns.
Requirements:
- BSc Degree / B-Tech in Mining Engineering
- Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering, or a related mining discipline (Would be advantageous)
- MBA / MBL (Would be advantageous)
- Minimum of 10 - 15 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years in a Senior Management or leadership role.
- Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency
- 1 Legal Appointment
