A leading temperature-controlled storage and logistics company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee cold storage projects across South Africa to join their team in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The role requires expertise in ammonia-based refrigeration systems, strong project management skills, and the ability to deliver projects on time, within scope, and to high safety and quality standards, with frequent national travel.
Responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end project management of cold storage construction, refurbishment, and upgrade projects.
Oversee project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and scheduling.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and legal requirements, particularly around ammonia refrigeration systems.
Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
Conduct risk assessments and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Monitor project progress and generate regular status reports for management.
Ensure quality assurance and control at every project phase.
Supervise installation, commissioning, and handover of refrigeration systems.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously across different regions.
Travel frequently to project sites across the country.
Requirements:
Trade Test Qualification (Millwright, Refrigeration Mechanic, Fitter & Turner).
5+ years’ project management experience in cold storage, food processing, or industrial refrigeration.
Proven experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
Knowledge of building services, mechanical installations, and cold chain requirements.
Understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance practices.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationally.
Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in MS Project and Excel; AutoCAD advantageous.
