RPO’s client is seeking a dynamic and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Kraaifontein, Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for an innovative professional who enjoys working with reusable assets and is passionate about developing mechanical systems that improve operational efficiency in a supply chain context.
Duties & Responsibilities
Product Design & Technical Development
- Create and maintain CAD models and detailed drawings for timber, plastic, and steel equipment.
- Develop a centralised technical repository and ensure documentation accuracy.
- Lead initiatives to improve existing products and incorporate client-driven design modifications.
- Coordinate third-party product testing and evaluate performance against industry benchmarks.
Plant, Equipment & Systems Engineering
- Design, optimize, and update production plant layouts.
- Integrate mechanical systems with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components.
- Specify, supervise, and commission equipment installations and upgrades.
- Implement improvements across semi-automated repair lines and production equipment.
Project & Infrastructure Management
- Oversee civil infrastructure projects related to site expansions, refurbishments, and upgrades.
- Manage external contractors and ensure adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards.
- Apply project management principles across all engineering initiatives.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide technical training and support to operational and maintenance teams.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical failures.
- Ensure all systems comply with engineering codes, safety standards, and company policies.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies to continuously evolve GLS’s equipment offerings.
- Support the development of preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
Minimum Requirements
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or BSc Eng) is essential.
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in manufacturing, production, or supply chain sectors.
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
- Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel to operational sites as required.
